The Business Index for Social Cohesion and Peace (BISCAP)

BISCAP measures the contribution of small and medium enterprises to social cohesion in communities, and provides a confidential scoring based on a set of key criteria. Global business-peace scorecards exist but they are all focused on large multinationals or foreign firms, with a focus on corporate social responsibility. The significance of BISCAP is that it is the perhaps only one focusing on local businesses in a way that best represents the way local businesses operate can contribute to peace. The index uses five overarching criteria and seventeen indicators, and has the flexibility to be adapted to different contexts. Contact us for more information.

Spokes of Vulnerability and The Wheel of Catalytic Change

The “Spokes and Wheels” framework provides a guide for development practitioners engaged in working in highly complex and fragile contexts, including conflict-affected regions. The ten spokes of vulnerability highlight the challenges people face, and the wheel of Catalytic Change provides a guide on the key factors that need to be considered to support change and deliver sustainable solutions. BizRes (Business Resilience App for Fragile and Vulnerable Contexts)

BizRes is an App that supports micro and small businesses in vulnerable contexts to remain resilient and adaptive in times of increased uncertainty and fragility. The App has been successfully piloted in Sri Lanka and we are current seeking to scale up. Each business using Bizres will be able to undertake two levels of analysis, which then leads to the development of resilience plans. The tool is relevant for a large range of contexts that have disease outbreaks, conflicts, natural disasters, economic downturns and public utility failures. Businesses operating in any sector can use the app. Moreover, recommendations on the type of measures to be adopted in preparation for unforeseen or during unexpected external events are not kept static and can be changed or further refined based on a ‘co-creation’ model. The tool also allows partner organisations to better support viability of micro and small businesses in fragile contexts. Contact us for more information.
